Geoff - Male Peregrine Falcon
Hatch date: 24/5/2014
Geoff is a cheeky chap, he is our imprint (hand raised) peregrine. He is one of Chris's demonstration birds, he also visits schools and does pest control. Geoff join us at SMJ Falconry temporarily in August 2014, we took him on as he was an extremely noisy falcon, he would scream constantly when he saw anyone. He now regularly gets to fly at tame hack, meaning he gets to fly around our farm and the local area for a few hours each morning. He also visits many schools, does Pest Control and public flying displays.
Leon - Male Black Kite
Hatch date: 14/6/14
Leon is our Black Kite, he arrived with us in 2014 at 5 weeks old. He came from Belgium and Chris collected him from the Dartford crossing. Unfortunately when Chris collected him there was a big accident in the tunnel which closed the tunnel and left Chris in a traffic jam for 6 hours behind a Seat Leon, which is where his name "Leon" comes from. In the end he had to stay over night in a hotel to wait for it to clear. Leon is a great bird to see flying on experience days, unfortunately he hasn't mastered external demonstrations yet but we hope he will improve for demonstrations in the future.
Hoggle - Male Gyr Falcon
Hatch date: 19/4/2014
Hoggle is our Gyr Falcon. He is part of Chris's flying display team and can be seen at events with Chris all over the country. He is a fantastic flying bird and is always eye catching on our static displays.
Peter - Male Harris Hawk
Hatch date: 25/05/2016
Peter is our chief hawk walk Harris Hawk. He does most of our hawk walks and is very good at them. He soars over our little valley during windy days and follows us around the beautiful countryside. He isn't a very good hunting hawk as he is our smallest Harris Hawk, but he will occasionally join the hunting team and can be successful on smaller rabbits/prey.
Millie - Female Raven
Hatch date: 06/04/2012
Millie is our Raven, although not part of the Raptor family, Ravens are incredibly intelligent and Millie has a fantastic character. She certainly shows how smart she is, and is capable of solving many different types of puzzles!
Anya - Female Steppe Eagle
Hatch date: 08/05/2012
Anya is our Steppe Eagle, she is our first eagle, we got Anya in August 2012 and she progressed well with her training but had an accident and fractured her left leg. She had to have it pinned for 3 months and she couldnt be teathered for 3 more months after that which really affected her training. James has really worked hard with her after she has fully moulted out and she is now flying free, because she wasn't exposed to demonstrations and show's it will take a long time to get her flying in demonstrations, but it something we are aiming for in the future.
Julianne - Female Hooded Vulture
Hatch date: 12/04/2014
Julianne is our only Vulture currently, but she is a fantastic bird full of Character. We collected her from her breeder in mid-Wales at just 12 days old, she was small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. Once she was a bit holder, she travelled around in the front of the van visiting schools and going to demonstrations around Yorkshire. She finally fledged when she was 13 weeks old and then started flying over our little valley and back. She is now an accomplished demonstration bird and is going from strength to strength.
Tyke - Male Burrowing Owl
Hatch date: 19/5/2021
Tyke is our Burrowing Owl. This species is found in North and South America, and true to their name, live in burrows underground! Tyke is a very cheeky chap and can be seen during Experience days, School visits and during our public demonstrations!
Morris - Male Lanner Falcon
Hatch date: 4/5/2013
Morris is part of Chris's display team, he came to us at 6 weeks old (just as he was fully grown) and took straight to flying in demonstrations, he is an excellent bird to watch and will come really close over the audience's heads. He does occasionally go and have a wonder off from shows, most memorably from York where he ended up landing on a Frankie's and Benny's roof and waited for Chris to collect him.
Tonto - Male American Kestrel
Hatch date: 1/6/2019
Tonto is a cheeky little bird, he is our smallest bird weighing in at just 100 grams. Tonto is used for Experience Days, schools and birthday parties. He also travels around in both Chris's and Sandra's display teams.
Tiffin - Male Kestrel
Hatch date: 5/5/2012
Tiffin is a rescue Kestrel that arrived here in 2013. He was unfortunately found in someones garden shed in a budgey cage. because of this he was in terrible condition. Thankfully after a year of TLC he grew a lovely new set of feathers and now visits schools, thrills people on experience days and does many flying displays during our summer season.
Twilight - Female Barn Owl
Hatch date: 1/5/2013
Twilight is one of Chris's primary demonstration birds and takes part in most external shows and a lot of experience days here. She is very well behaved and loves to fly every day. Most people in Britain know of the struggle Barn Owls have had over the last 50 years, as such they are a firm favourite among young and old.
Spud - Female Little Owl
Hatch date: 31/5/2017
Spud is our only Little Owl, she is a very grumpy owl (most Little Owls are!) and is called Spud after her looking like a potato when she was a little Owlette. She does our experience days and flying displays throughout the Summer.
Candy - Female MacKinder's Eagle Owl
Hatch date: 2/4/2010
Candy, our Mackinder's Eagle Owl is a lovely owl, she is very slow and patient. She is great at shows and also at flying during experience days. She has joined the ranks of the flying display team and is still getting to grips with big crowds.
Dusty - Male African Spotted Eagle Owl
Hatch date: 10/4/2010
Dusty is one of Sandra's favourite Owls, she is part of her flying display team and also takes part in owl encounters. Dusty occasionally stars at weddings, doing flying ring deliveries, too!
Willow - Female Red Kite
Hatch date: 18/05/2015
Willow is our Red Kite, we've had her since she was just 4 weeks old and has been travelling around with us ever since. She is a very kind natured bird and very relaxed in pretty much all environments. Red kites are an amazing bird and recognised up and down the country, they have had a rough time over the last 50 years but are now no longer endangered in this country. Willow is Chris's favourite bird and takes part in most demonstrations and experience days.
